The Giving Tree

In what way have you given lately?  Have you given your time, attention, money,  possessions?  Do something kind for someone or something today.  It will fill your heart with sunshine!

One vine I’m reaching out with today is  What is your vine?  I’d love to hear, for it’s in the sharing of “actions of the heart” that we become more whole….

Humor Us!

A dose of humor many times a day is one of the best remedies for an ailing heart and mind.  When you laugh, your whole attitude changes and you are suddenly catapulted to a different place in time.  So search out those activities that bring a smile to your face and a laugh to your belly!

For those of you who read my recent post, “Joie de Vivre”, you may recall my dance class and the joy it brings me.  Not only does dance bring a smile to my face but the connection with the women in my class often brings big  laughs.  This week, we’re dancing along and concentrating on our deep earthy African moves, and all of a sudden my friend yells out, “my ovary hurts”!  I’m still laughing as I write this… how does she come up with this stuff?  I’m just grateful that she does, comic relief is a beautiful thing.  Anyway, the saga continued, my other friend pulls out this little heat packet she had, hands it to my “ovary” friend who placed it over her ovary area and continued to dance!  For those of you picturing this scene, I hope you are laughing right now, and enjoying one of your daily doses, because mine is repeating on me!

So laugh, laugh, laugh, and sing, sing, sing, otherwise, none of it means a thing, thing, thing!

Angel Speak

Recognize and give thanks to all angels that come to you today.  Some walk this earth, some are more ethereal in nature, others make themselves known in your everyday existence.  Notice that nudge that comes to you in your sleep, or that feather that lightly touches your cheek.  It is very likely that your angel is giving you a message of love, hope, guidance, faith, and letting you know that you are not alone.  Never alone.  Always wrapped in angels wings…

I’d love to hear your angel stories/experiences….

Stop, Drop & Roll

In an emergency fire, the experts recommend that you stop, drop & roll to give you a better chance of survival and save your life.  I recommend the same in keeping with the survival of our spiritual wellness.  Preventative damage control is crucial  in keeping our soul in balance.  Out of balance, we are likely to get burned.

Stop!  Stay in the present moment.  Right now you don’t need to worry about the past or the future.  Sit with “now” and allow the energy of life to flow to you.  Look at your feet.  That’s where you are, all is well and good and that’s all you have to think about in this moment.  If  the concerns start to take over, bring yourself back to the present.  Each step you take in this moment will bring you to your intended destination.

Drop to your knees!  As painful as it can seem to be, humility is nourishment for the soul.  It is when we are humbled that we finally see the forest through the trees.  Our hearts open and we see the light in others more.  We tend to give more and feel fulfilled in our daily life.  It is when the ego takes control that we begin to feel the emptiness.  The ego is not always a bad thing, it can spur you on to reach certain goals,  but when it is leading your life it depletes your spirit.  The ego constantly searches for outer approval and will trample on others to hear the applause.  It’s a lonely road back to reality.

Roll with the tide…allow life to ebb and flow, and expect that it will.  We all have ups and downs.  When the “downs” come, know that it won’t stay that way forever.  It is in the down time that we gain strength and learn to appreciate the “ups” of life!  The light is so much sweeter when we’ve recently experienced the dark.  Roll, don’t control.

And lastly, a little rock n’ ROLL never hurt anyone, so get out there and have some FUN!!

Sister and Brotherhood

“Let us turn our thoughts today to Martin Luther King, and recognize that there are ties between us, all men and women living on the earth, ties of hope and love, sister and brotherhood…”      ~James Taylor,  “Shed a little Light” lyrics

May today be a reminder to treat all that walk this earth with love and respect.  Regardless of color, race, religion, gender, size, 2 legged or 4 legged, may we send out genuine love and forgiveness for past struggles.  For it is in these actions that we rise above the “muck” of life and feel the warmth of the sun.  As Martin Luther King, Jr. demonstrated for us, it is better to live peace than fight for peace.

Find your peace today, with yourself, with others, and pass it on.

If any of you saw the movie,  “You, Me & Dupree”  with Owen Wilson, you will appreciate the humor in finding your “ness” today:D  What is your “ness”?  Mine is nothing-ness!  We all need a day to do nothing…well, maybe with a little fun mixed in.   I am managing to fit in a little walk, and maybe a little shopping with my girls, but it feels good to think about doing nothing.  No obligations, no deadlines, no cleaning, no laundry!

Find your “ness” today and enjoy!

Move da Body! Clear Your Mind….

I often tell my clients that exercise is the best natural anti-depressant I know.  How do I know this?  Because I experience it in my own life.  It has become such a routine for me that if I miss a day, my head and my body know it!  A couple of months ago, I was having a “grouchy mom” day and my 10-year-old daughter came to me and said, “have you exercised today mom?”  I had to laugh as I looked her in the eyes and said, “no, I haven’t honey, you are so right on!”  Out of the mouths of babes…they certainly do teach us, if we listen.

So, when you exercise what do you ENJOY doing?  Don’t make it a struggle for yourself.  Do you enjoy walking, running, aerobics, hiking, biking, spinning, yoga, dance, kettlebells, swimming, riding your horse, skiing, or a combination of it all?  Exercise shouldn’t be painful, it can be challenging at times, but you should include it in your life as something that feels good.  After a good walk, dance class or aerobic workout, my mind is clear and my mood improves!  If you would rather stay home than go to the gym or go outside (sometimes it is weather permitting, although walks in snow storms are pretty cool!), there are plenty of  DVD workouts you can choose from.  Here is a list of some of my favorites…

*Yoga;  Energy Balance Yoga with Rodney Yee (Gaiam),  Power Yoga with  Bryan Kest (WB),  Iron Yoga with Anthony Carillo (Goodtimes).

*Pilates;  Hit the Spot Pilates with Denise Austin (Lions Gate)

*Tae Bo;  Fat Blasting Cardio with Billy Blanks (Goodtimes)

*Hip Hop;  Hip Hop Abs with Shaun T.  (Beachbody)…and my most recent fav!

Happy day everyone, and move da body!  Your head will thank you:)
