As requested by my friend, Kevin, here is “Summertime” sung by Sam Cooke.  It was written in 1935 by George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin and Dubose Howard.  Recorded by many greats from Billie Holiday to John Coltrane to Peter Gabriel.  Perfect song to spring into the summer solstice!  How did you do that Kev?  Timing… here’s to  summertime!

  1. Deepest gratitude to you Cindy for finding and featuring that gem. When I said today was the official start of summer I was referring to you having this song as a link. Didn’t realize the song, calender and solstice actually coincided. It’s a beautiful, wistful, lazy song.

  2. Cindy and Kevin,

I had never heard that song nor knew of Sam Cooke.
    The song is sweet!
It has a feel to it like you want to float around and do graceful circles with your arms spread out wide.
    Happy Summertime!

  3. Summer solstice always make me think of another of your favorites, Jame Taylor. ” I’ve seen days I thought would never end”. Cheers to the longest day of the year !

Now that I think about it, ” days that would never end” could be a bad thing, too, but I’m going with partly sunny vs partl cloudy 🙂

  4. That’s the ticket, Paul! Thinkin’ positive on our sunny summer solstice. Partly cloudy today but it’s all how we look at it…:) Seeing through the clouds…

Thank you all for making the summer solstice a great kick off to summer! Summertime…the livin’ is easy….the fish are jumpin’…and the cotton is high….I’m still dancin’! 😀
